FAQs - Frequently asked questions
Q. Do I need to configure port forwarding on my router?
A. No. There is no need for port forwarding as the e-Surveillance system handles all traffic to and from your camera.
Q. The camera is accessible from the Internet but not on my local network. Why?
A. This is intentional. Since there is no need for you to access it locally we have decided to increase security and reduce maintenance by only allowing management via the eSurveillance service.
Q. After connecting my camera, I cannot reach it. Why?
A. This might indicate a faulty network setup. Verify that your router has DHCP enabled and that it allows the camera to access the Internet. If your router does not use DHCP you have to locally configure the networking in your camera. If you have a proxy and no direct Internet connections are allowed you will have to locally configure the proxy URL in your camera. (Instruction on how to do this will be added here shortly).
Q. My ISP requires PPPoE to login. Can I connect a camera directly to it?
A. No. Since eSurveillance products do not support PPPoE, or any other login method, you will need a broadband router that handles the login procedure. Many home gateways today will handle the PPPoE login and then share that single Internet connection among however many devices you have in your home.
Q. Every page I view looks really strange. Why?
A. Most of the pages rely on javascript and in some cases html tags that possibly are incompatible with some browsers. Tested browsers are Mozilla/Firefox and Internet Explorer 6. If you feel a certain page should be updated to work then feel free to send us a message (see answer below).
Q. Can I use other browsers than Internet Explorer, such as Mozilla, Firefox e t c?
A. Yes, we support the Mozilla/Firefox browsers which can be downloaded here. Firefox is a good alternative as it runs on almost all platforms - Windows, Mac or Linux. If you have multiple active streams you need to increase the setting for number of streams. This can be done by:
- Enter the URL: about:config (without http or www)
- Enter the word persistent as filter keyword
- Set the two parameters network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy and network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server to a higher value, e.g. 5, by double clicking on them both
We are planning support for the Safari browser but not until the next major Tiger OSX upgrade.
Q. What do I do when something does not work? / Where do I send comments?
A. You can ask people at e-Surveillance by sending an email to Trouble Report. Try to be as specific as possible - i.e. on what page did the error occur, what link did not work as expected, what were you trying to do and so on.
